Mozilla's Firefox browser used to be the fastest browser available for the Windows operating system. Unfortunately for Firefox users, many issues with Firefox which affect page speed and overall smooth operation of the browser have not been fixed as-of-late and that means we're stuck with a sluggish browser.
Fasterfox is a Firefox addon which does a few things to speed up browsing speed. For one thing, it uses something which Google has started using in Google Chrome called prefetching. What this does is download links you might visit in the background while you're browsing a particular page. This has a positive effect on the overall time it takes to browse web pages.
One thing to note about prefetching is that it can increase your bandwidth usage considerably, so if you're on usage-based-billing, then you might want to think twice before installing this addon.
Another thing that Fasterfox does is it tweaks network connection settings such as DNS cache, pipelining, simultaneous connections and more.
The popup and ad block that is included with Fasterfox isn't the best, but it is effective at hiding certain types of advertisements which are notorious for slowing down your browser experience. This is probably one of the best features of Fasterfox, along with prefetching.Fasterfox features and highlights:
